Mendip District Council

Client: Mendip District Council
Contract: Housing benefit administration, financial, accounting and payroll services, revenue collection, a contact centre and election tasks
Duration: 12 years

The Challenge

The Council’s original contract with Capita commenced in 1993 and twelve years later it was up for renewal. Although the work was to cover financial, revenues and benefits and IT services as before, Mendip also wanted to build a new ‘risk and reward-sharing’ strategic partnership.

The Solution

To achieve such tough objectives suppliers had to offer clear strategic directions and best practice. New IT deployments meant having a well-reasoned strategy with rigorously-applied procedures and processes. Only then would Mendip be able to deploy a lengthy list of new systems including electronic document management,  e-procurement and e-government.

The Benefits

Starting in July 2005, the transition from the old contract to the new has been seamless. An extensive programme and project review has been undertaken alongside new procedures for change control. Several high profile projects such as remote working for council members and staff as well as a planning online portal were early deliveries.

We feel that we are an important customer and Capita brings a business understanding to the partnership. Chris Atkinson, Partnership and Strategic Procurement Manager, Mendip District Council
