Outstanding Achievement in Procurement: Mendip District Council

Mendip District Council was recognised for their Outstanding Achievement in Procurement at the 2005 annual awards of the Society of Procurement Officers in Local Government (SOPO).

Capita has worked with Mendip DC for over 12 years. In July 2005, Capita was reselected by Mendip District Council to deliver a wide range of business services, as part of the Councils’ reform and modernisation programme.

The Award was given in recognition of the procurement process for the new contract with Capita. The new contract, worth more than £30 million over twelve years, encompassed a wide range of services involving the administration of housing benefits; financial and accounting services including payroll; the collection of revenues such as council tax and business rates; elections registration and management; and information technology services such as desktop support and systems management.

Councillor Harvey Siggs, said, “It is tremendous to be given an award that recognises an innovative approach to best practice especially one which provides both savings and better services to our council tax payers. The fact that our processes were judged to be first rate by an external panel of experts makes the award even more meaningful.”
